The hottest sector in the digital camera market is the SLR sector. All of a sudden there are seven players – Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Samsung and Sony. All them are aggressively seeking to increase or at least maintain market share. The other option is to increase the market itself and Nikon is seeking to do precisely that with its new D40. At one time, this job was performed admirably by Canon, but in a new found dynamism, Nikon has stolen the thunder first by beating Canon to the market in the 10MP sector with the D80 and now launching what could be a real beginner’s camera at a much lower price point.
