BenQ SW 271

July 10, 2019 by Sujith Gopinath

There are quite a few monitor display manufacturers in the market, but when it comes to photography monitors, not many can claim quite the expertise. BenQ has been a frontrunner in the photography monitor space and the company is back with their latest 27-inch monitor. The SW271 is a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) monitor that can reproduce 99 percent of Adobe RGB colour space.

The SW271 uses a 10-bit IPS panel producing over one billion colours and providing a wide viewing angle of up to 178 degrees. The monitor features BenQ’s AQCOLOR technology for accurate reproduction of colours. The monitor has been certified by Technicolor, which guarantees that the white point, gamut, gamma curve and colour differences are within the specified values. The monitor can reproduce 99% Adobe RGB, 100% sRGB, and 100% Rec.709 colour gamuts, allowing photographers and retouchers more tonal width for better editing possibilities. The built-in 14-bit 3D LUT (Look Up Table) improves RGB colour blending accuracy, resulting in accurate colour and grey tone reproduction. This allows Delta E≤2 in both Adobe RGB and sRGB colour gamuts. The SW271 supports HDR10 standard of High Dynamic Range content via HDMI cable.

BenQ bundles Palette Master Element calibration software to adjust the monitor’s internal image processing IC without altering graphics card’s data. This ensures consistent colour irrespective of graphic card settings. Users can use calibrators from X-rite and DataColor to implement Palette Master Element calibration. You can set three customised calibration profiles and switch between them.

The Hotkey Puck bundled with the monitor lets you switch between Adobe RGB, sRGB, and Black and White modes effortlessly. The buttons can be customised to map other modes or OSD settings, such as brightness and contrast. BenQ also bundles detachable shading hoods for both landscape and portrait orientations. The hood reduces glare from ambient lighting.

The monitor offers PIP (Picture In Picture) and PBP (Picture By Picture) mode for multitasking in GamutDuo viewing. This enables you to simultaneously display content side-by-side in two different colour spaces. A Black and White mode allows you to choose three presets to preview your images before actually making adjustments. The SW271 features BenQ’s eye-care technologies that reduce eye fatigue, enhancing productivity. The screen is coated with anti-glare coating and the device uses flicker-free technology.

The monitor offers connectivity with 2 x HDMI (v2.0), 1 x Display Port, 2 x USB Downstream, 1 x USB Upstream, USB Type-C, and SD/MMC card reader. The BenQ SW271 measures 504.49 – 610.95 x 613.8 x 213.43 mm (H x W x D) without shading hood and with base. It weighs 16.4 kg (gross).

The monitor is available from all BenQ dealers at an MRP of Rs.99,000 with a three-year onsite warranty. For details, visit: https://www.benq.com/en-in/monitor/photographer/sw271.html
