As we enter the second month of 2018, initial signs indicate that, in 2018, the industry will once again be in rude health. Trying to predict over the next 12 months sounds foolhardy but there seems to be some good news on the horizon. All the Japanese manufacturers are increasing their sales forecast figures for 2018. The Japanese ‘Nikkei Asian Review’ reports that more and more users are choosing high value added compact digital cameras to take pictures that cannot be taken with a smartphone. The high-end of the camera market is in good shape and will see a lot of focus from camera manufacturers. The elephant in the room, however, will be the smartphone and recent introductions like the Google Pixel XLII and Huawei Mate 10 Pro produce very good images. The lack of sharpness and the presence of artefacts are now rapidly becoming things of the past.
We, at SP, are there on the spot to keep you informed of the interesting times that the industry faces in 2018.
