Huawei has been quite proactive in launching products capable of tapping almost all segments in the smartphone market. Their Honor brand of smartphones have been quite popular, and the company has even started manufacturing smartphones in India under the Make In India initiative. Their latest innovation revolves around dual cameras that have been optimally used to enhance the quality of the final image. The Huawei P9 helped the company to tap into the premium segment, while the Honor 8 caters to the mid-high level of the market. The new Honor 6X also incorporates a dual camera, while catering to the under-Rs.15,000 segment. The device has many advanced features that have trickled down from the P9 and Honor 8.
The 6X is powered by a Huawei Kirin 655 Octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and the other four at 1.7 GHz. It uses a Mali-T830 GPU. The device works on Android 6.0 Marshmallow under an EMUI 4.1 skin. The 6X is being offered in two variants internationally, and the model initially released in India sports 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. The device uses a 5.5-inch, Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) 403 ppi display reproducing 16 million colours. The fingerprint sensor is at the back along with the dual cameras and a small flash. The sensor unit has built into it, the responsive touch feature, which lets you perform a host of operations by tapping or swiping the sensor. The device is built with metal frosted material and a 2.5D curved glass.
As mentioned earlier, the 6X uses a dual camera as the main imaging device, of which one is a 12 megapixel model while the other has a 2 megapixel sensor. As in the other models, the 12 megapixel unit is used to capture all colour information, while the 2-megapixel model records all the information on the amount of light in the scene. The underlying sensors are the Sony IMX386 model. The camera uses Phase Detection autofocus. Aperture ranges from f/0.95 to 16. The device offers Professional photo mode, which lets you adjust parameters such as Shutter speed, Metering modes, Exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity and White Balance. Other camera modes include Photo, Beauty, Video, Pro Video, Beauty Video, HDR, Night Shot, Panorama, Good Food, Light Painting, Time Lapse, Slowmotion, Watermark, Audio Note and Document Scan.
The dual camera system allows the camera to record all the depth information present in the scene. The advantage of this is that you can adjust the focus and depth of field after the image is captured, no matter what aperture you used or where you focussed initially. Another benefit of this system is superior Black and White images. In fact, the Honor 6X offers a wide range of Black and White filters with manual tweaking at every stage. Videos can be recoded at up to Full HD (1080p) quality. The secondary (front) camera is an 8-megapixel model providing Full HD video recording.
The Honor 6X features a 3340mAh non-removable battery and has a micro USB interface along with a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The device measures 150.9 x76.2 x 8.2 mm and weighs approximately 162g. The phone is available in Grey, Gold and Silver colours. |SP
