Canon Inc. recently announced that it had developed a new autofocus technology for the EOS 70D D-SLR camera. Called ‘Dual Pixel CMOS AF’ technology, it employs a CMOS sensor where all the effective pixels are able to perform imaging as well as phase-detection AF simultaneously. Each individual pixel uses two independent photodiodes, which produce signals that can be used for both imaging and phase-detection AF. Canon claims this has given the new sensor dramatically improved AF performance as compared to previous EOS cameras in Live View and video recording.
