Canon Inc. is looking to increase the production from its home country, Japan, from 40% of their overall output to about 60%. “From now on, new copier, camera and printer products will be built at domestic factories and as they replace older products, the volume of goods made overseas will fall,” a company spokesperson told Reuters.
The weak Yen seems to have spurred this move; and Canon isn’t the only electronics company to take this action. Panasonic and Sharp are also considering an increase in domestic production, though they have not confirmed plans yet.
