Cost-Effective Workstation for Creative Pros

August 23, 2021 by Sujith Gopinath

If you are a creative professional who is into graphic arts, 3D animation or video production, you would appreciate the role of a high-end workstation in your professional success. With many companies adopting Work From Home (WFH) as a long-term mode of work, many professionals have been left without a high-end workstation for their creative endeavours. Investing in a high-end machine in this ever-changing technology space is a challenge, mainly because your long-term investment can go obsolete in a few years. Add to it, the maintenance and troubleshooting expenses. Yotta, a Hiranandani group company, with their attempts to address this problem with their newly launched Virtual Pro workstations, a virtual solution that can be seamlessly accessed via a basic computing device (smartphone, tablet etc).

Yotta Virtual Workstations use NVIDIA’s virtual GPU technology employing RTX 8000 GPUs to set up workstations that cater to your varying requirements with custom solutions on a monthly subscription basis. The machines are powered by multiple enterprise-grade CPUs, offering a highly scalable solution for individuals, teams and organisations. The system uses Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to host the desktops on a central server. The data is encrypted, hence offering high level security while transferred to the local machine. The service is quite easy to set up and connect from a remote machine. The virtual machine provides low latency and decreases CPU load at the user’s end.

Accessing Photoshop CC on the virtual workstation

We were allotted a machine with 16 vCPUs with 96 GB memory, 500 GB storage and 16GB of vGPU memory. During the review, we tried various software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and were quite satisfied with the performance of the machine. Of the 30 days of access we were provided, we never experienced any glitch or downtime. Since we stuck to popular photography software to test the system, our advice for any user would be to check with the dedicated support team for program compatibility. You can also request a trial version to ensure that your requirements are met. The Virtual Pro workstations are available in various configurations and packages. Personal Essential Eco workstation plans start from Rs.7000 per month and feature 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM, 100 GB storage, 2GB vGPU memory (Nvidia RTX8000) and unlimited data transfer. Pooled Essential Eco Workstation with the above configuration starts from Rs.4000 per month. The fact that the service allows collaborative work makes this quite attractive especially for small teams working on a project. For details, visit www.yotta.com
