I have written about ‘equipmentitis’ in the past but a new word has now been coined which attempts to describe the habits of some of us more accurately. This word is ‘upgraditis’. ‘Upgraditis’ is a terminal condition, the main symptom of which is the insatiable urge to upgrade. Apart from the imaging industry and cameras, it is to be found also in the hifi, automobile and watch industries. Even the slightest improvement in a product creates that urge to go and splash out. Very often, the pleasure of buying is momentary and a sense of satiation sets in. Sometimes, this causes intense disappointment and further longing. On the other hand, one must remember that the ‘upgraditis’ brigade stimulates sales of new products and manufacturers love them. Also, if you live in cities with humid conditions or close to the sea, constant upgrade will save you from the problems of fungus, which is inevitable.
As always, it is your money and your choice, but don’t say that you were not warned.
