Nikon said that it plans to launch more “entry-class” D-SLRs, as well as review the planning strategy for its Nikon 1 system, after admitting that it overestimated the sales of compact cameras. The company recently announced that it had reduced the number of interchangeable lens cameras it expects to sell in FY 2013-14 by 550,000. Nikon also said that it sold 80,000 fewer interchangeable lens cameras and 60,000 fewer lenses in the second quarter of FY 2013-14, than it did in the same quarter last year. Sales of compact cameras fell 30% in terms of volume, while the company’s total sales dropped by 2.6 billion yen.
