Panasonic has announced that it will foray into the home surveillance market with a camera and sensor unit that will keep a tab on children, elderly and pets. The images can be transferred to a smartphone. This new camera—the Sma@Home System—will be made available for purchase on October 15 at an expected street price of 27,000 yen including a home unit and surveillance camera equipped with a microphone and speaker. The camera makes use of a wireless transmission system known as ‘DECT’. Panasonic has anticipated 37 billion yen sales by 2018.
