Panasonic launches LUMIX S 18-40mm F/4.5-6.3 (S-R1840)

November 22, 2024 by Gandhi Mathi

Panasonic Life Solutions India introduced the LUMIX S 18-40mm F/4.5-6.3 lens (S-R1840), an addition to its acclaimed LUMIX S Series lineup. Based on the L-Mount system standard, this full-frame lens sets a new benchmark as the world’s smallest and lightest* zoom lens weighing just 155 grams, making it an ideal choice for photographers and videographers looking for a versatile focal range with unprecedented compactness without compromising on quality.

Designed to pair seamlessly with the compact LUMIX S9 camera, the S-R1840 lens is built to withstand challenging conditions while delivering the high-quality imaging performance that professionals and enthusiasts expect from Panasonic. The lens’s versatile zoom range, spanning from ultra-wide 18mm to standard 40mm, makes it an ideal companion for everything from sweeping landscape photography to everyday documentation. With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.15m (0.49ft), users can explore creative close-up compositions while maintaining the lens’s exceptional clarity.

Commenting on the launch, Hardeep Singh Sarna, Business Chief, Imaging Business Group, Panasonic Life Solutions India & SAARC said “Building upon Panasonic’s commitment to hybrid photo/video excellence, the LUMIX S-R1840 lens offers industry-leading video capabilities, delivering smooth and high-resolution quality with advanced focus breathing suppression feature—a common challenge in videography where changes in focus impact the angle of view. This ensures seamless transitions and an immersive viewing experience, making it a powerful tool for hybrid creators. Additionally, the LUMIX S9 camera’s Hybrid Zoom function extends the range to 18-120mm, offering even greater versatility in a single, lightweight setup.”
