Canon expects sales for the full year till December 2015 to yield a 4.6% increase year-on-year to 3,900 billion Yen. The operating profit is expected to rise to 380 billion Yen, a 4.5% gain, and net income to 260 billion Yen, a 2% increase helped by a favourable economy in the US. The company projects the Imaging and Business Machine business units to post profit, thanks to the continued demand for MFD printers and recovery in the digital camera business.
As for the digital camera market, although projections indicate continued market contraction mainly for lowpriced compact models, demand for interchangeable lens digital cameras is expected to recover gradually. Canon projects a 1% gain in interchangeable lens cameras to 6.4 million units while compact models are expected to drop by 14% to 7.8 million units. The company plans to introduce new models in the D-SLR category as it realised that unfavourable results of D-SLRs in 2014 was partly due to lack of new introductions. Canon expects the total market for digital cameras at 14.3 million units for interchangeablelens camera category while the compact models are to decline 21% to 33 million units.
