Adobe dropped a bomb at its IMAX conference in Los Angeles on May 6th, where it announced that it plans to abandon its Creative Suite desktop software and transition completely to the subscription-only Creative Cloud.
Adobe also said that it plans to continue selling the CS6 hardcopies for now, but anything more than bug fixes and OS compatibility or CS7 was highly unlikely. The decision will affect all the software bundled in the Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, TypeKit and others. Instead of a one-time purchase, users will pay $50 a month to use Creative Cloud services; $30 a month if they have a serial number for CS3 and higher, or $20 per application; and there will be special pricing for multiple users and education users.
