Athens Photo World 2019, a photography festival dedicated to the work and memory of photojournalist Yannis Behrakis, was held in Athens, Greece, from 7th to 16th June 2019. This was the inaugural year of the event, which was possible due to the collaboration of award-winning photographer Thanassis Stavrakis, the artistic director of the event, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Visitors got the opportunity to get acquainted with photographs and other works of Yannis Behrakis. The event also held exhibitions by other APW contributors.
APW has also announced the “Yannis Behrakis” International Photojournalism Award. The winner of the award will receive a cash prize of Euros 15,000 at a special event to be held in Athens, Greece, in late September 2019. The winning photographic project will be exhibited at the next APW event. From next year onwards, the award will be presented on the last day of the APW event. Submissions for the 2020 edition of the award will be open from 31st December to 30th April.
