If rumours are to be believed, Canon seems to have a new sensor design in place for their 120 MP D-SLR that was previewed recently.
A well-informed rumour source says that the Bayer pattern sensors do not do full justice to ultra-high resolution sensors over 100MP. The source believes that the new sensor may be similar in technology to Sigma’s patented Foveon technology and that Canon has previously sought patents for multi-layer sensors.
If this is to be believed, the sensor will have a combined resolution of 120 MP, but yielding lower final resolutions, as seen in Foveon sensors.
Well, we trust Canon to surprise us with something special.
