Different Strokes

April 14, 2011 by spwordpress

“Growing up, like every other kid I compiled a never-ending list of ambitions, and serious career options that I wanted to explore.

Quite surprisingly photography was never a part of that list. Life has its strange ways to show you the right path. It wasn’t until I got my own camera that I began to develop an interest in the field, but I took my own time in understanding the creative possibilities of photography. However, with time, I realized one thing for sure, shooting landscapes, nature and wildlife was not my forte. In fact, I found comfort in walking around with my camera, sitting in crowded places watching people, and capturing their expressions. This affection I had within me to record people and their moments had a strong effect on me, and I guess that is what it takes to be a people photographer. I wanted to work with that and make it worthwhile”, reveals Banglaore-based people’s photographer, Venkatesh.

Giving us insights on the industry, Venkatesh says, ‘Being a celebrity photographer is not all glamour. It comes with its own pitfalls. In short, your favorite movie star, cricketer, or a crooning singer whose voice you love, all have their flaws just like us ordinary folk. A celebrity photographer, apart from the label, gets backstage access, which is where the masks and the makeup come off. This certainly helps you understand the life of the rich and famous.’

Working with high-profile celebs usually involves dealing with tantrums and diva-like behavior, but he has a different approach to it. He explains, “It can be easy and fun. In contrast, most of them are very approachable, and there is a way to go about making them comfortable and to break the ice. Depending on that, they open up to you. One of the leading actresses in the Karnataka film industry, Aindrita Ray is an absolute delight to work with. This is because she cooperates with the team and helps the photographer in getting the perfect image.”
