The building blocks of my photographic journey started when I was ten years old. It was the semester vacation of 2003, when I went to a photo exhibition and saw amazing photos taken by some of the very talented photographers of my hometown, Silchar, Assam. Everything around me gained a new perspective. I started following blogs from many great photographers around the world and my interest grew over time!
One day, when I was in the 12th standard, my dad, who is a professor of physics, was teaching me the most interesting chapter of physics, light! And the topic was “How a camera works.” As he was teaching all the theories, he suddenly took out his camera, and started explaining things along with that. The first camera I used was Yashica point-and-shoot film camera. Seven years later, I bought a Fuji point-and-shoot which gave a lot more options and variations to play with. I learnt a lot from Smart Photography’s ‘Learnings’ section. Today, I use a Canon 600D for my shoots along with various lenses like Sigma 10-20, Sigma 105 macro, Canon 50mm, Tamron 70-300 VC etc.
I like the way photography has changed my way of looking at any Jaydeep Chakrabarty, Bangalore scene. If I go out with my camera, I never stop clicking till I get a photo that I like. Before, if I were to shoot the Taj Mahal, I would have clicked a single photo and walked away with it. Now, I would at least click 25-30 photos from different angles for a few hours, till I see a picture and say to myself, “that’s what I am looking for!”
I started my professional photography with jewellery. I enjoy product photography with different props. Apart from this, I like shooting portraits and HDRs.
I don’t think that I can ever be a photographer who knows everything about photography. In fact, I don’t think any photographer could. That’s because the learning never stops and the fun and excitement never ends! As told to Tanika Godbole
