To raise its D-SLR camera output capacity in the Taiwanese production base, Taiwan Canon, has planned a new factory in the region.
The new factory will be set up about 90km south of the city of Taichung. With a total area of roughly 70,000 square meters, the factory is expected to launch operations in July next year. The new factory will be built by investing approximately 10 billion yen (US$125 million) and will employ more than 1,000 workers.
Canon intends to increase capacity at its existing camera factory in Taichung by constructing a new building and employing at least a minimum of 1,000 workers. This will expand its area by 50 percent to 35,000 square meters. With this move, the workforce at Canon’s Taiwanese factories will jump to 6,000 or more from the present 4,000, once the projects are completed.
