Nikon is seeking an injunction against Sigma, as well as £96.4m in damages, for the alleged patent infringement of its Vibration Reduction technology used in its interchangeable lenses
According to Reuters, Nikon is seeking up to ¥12.6 billion, equivalent to $154m or £94.6m, in damages.
Nikon adds that it tried to resolve the issue through negotiation, to no avail. The company concluded that filing a lawsuit was the only way it could protect its intellectual property.
