World Photography Organisation ( WPO) has released the names of photographers short-listed in the Professional, Open and Youth categories of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA).

India’s Danish Siddiqui has been  chosen among the top three finalists for the Professional Competition’s Arts & Culture category. In addition, Dilip Bhatia and Altaf Qadri from India have been shortlisted for Professional Competition categories- Architecture and Contemporary issues respectively. The other shortlisted entries are: Dibyendu Dey Choudhury, Arup Ghosh and Anurag Kumar for Arts & Culture category; and Abhijit Dey, Madhabendu Hensh and Sandipan Mukherjee for Smile category.

With over 122,000 entries from 170 countries – the highest number of submissions to date – the judges have selected photographs that stood out for their impressive high quality, originality and modern appeal.  Topics ranged from haunting shots of the Syrian conflict to the Obama presidential campaign; an intimate study of cinema-goers in Kabul to quirky and witty shots of the animal kingdom.
