No More Wires

March 4, 2011 by spwordpress

Aputure Gigtube Wireless
Remote camera triggers offer photographers a functionality that is beneficial in various ways. These devices are useful when you require to trigger a camera without touching it, especially during long exposure.

These are also used by wildlife photographers to photograph animals and birds without disturbing them. Aputure Gigtube Wireless is a wireless viewer and remote for D-SLRs featuring Live View mode.

The advantage of this device is that it can be used both as a trigger and a remote Live View display. The kit consists of a wireless receiver that attaches to the accessory shoe of the D-SLR, and a wireless remote control that includes a display. The accessories included in the kit are sunshade, two NP-60 rechargeable batteries, data cable, USB cable, charger, and AV cable adapter.

The Gigtube can be used either in wired remote Live View, or wireless remote Live View mode. For wired operation, you do not need to use the receiver. Attach the remote control unit to the camera using the data cable and put the camera on Live View mode. Now the LCD of the remote control will show the scene exactly as it appears on the camera’s LCD. You can then use the shutter release button on the remote trigger exactly as you would use the camera’s shutter release button—half-press for AF, and press fully to release the shutter. To start Bulb exposure, hold the shutter release button on the remote control for more than three seconds and then release it. The shutter will remain open till you half-press the button again.

For wireless operation, attach the receiver to the D-SLR’s accessory shoe and connect it to the camera using the data cable. Select a channel on the receiver, and set the same channel on the remote control. Now you can remotely view what the camera’s LCD shows, autofocus, and trigger the camera wirelessly.

The wireless device has a working range of up to 100 m. The remote control uses a 3.5 inch, 230,000 pixel TFT LCD, and has an easy-mounting screen hood that can aid in viewing images under bright sunny conditions. You can choose one among the four radio channels available. The Gigtube is available in different models for compatibility with various D-SLRs.

The Aputure Gigtube Wireless retails at an MRP of Rs.11,000 and comes with a 1-year warranty. It is available at FotoCentre Trading Pvt. Ltd, Fort, Mumbai. For details, contact: Ketan Shah; Mobile: +91 9820110120.
