Toshio Murai, Managing Director,
Olympus Imaging India
Pvt. Ltd.
What are the innovative products and promotions visitors can expect to see from Olympus, this Photofair 2012?
Olympus takes pride in being a global leader in opto-digital technologies, and has always been at the forefront of innovation with technologies such as SSWF Dust Reduction Technology (world’s first and most reliable integrated sensor cleaning system), Sensor-shift Image Stabilisation and Live View. In fact, Photofair 2012 will provide a perfect platform to showcase the mirrorless interchangeable lens system and its applications in the professional arena. In addition, we would also like to make people aware of our lenses and accessories available for the PEN cameras, including the newly launched M.Zuiko ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ which is the world’s first Electronic Zoom lens. Furthermore, we shall also be offering a few free services to our customers such as free collection of cameras, free cleaning of lenses and Live MOS sensor and much more.
PEN Series is arguably one of the world’s fastest AF system, with TruePic VI image processing engine, and AVCHD video enabled features bundled in the camera. How do you plan to highlight the USP of the product, vis-a-vis, its ease of use and affordability in comparison to the D-SLRs?
A D-SLR offers more than just mega-pixels. It gives the user the power to control the elements of time, space and light. It is this power that makes the people aspire to own a D-SLR, over a point-and-shoot camera. The PEN which is one of the most advanced camera systems, offers the best of both worlds, i.e. form and functionality of a compact camera and razor sharp precision, clarity, and colour of a D-SLR. The lenses created for the Mirrorless Micro FourThird system combined with the hands-on experience offered at the various workshops conducted by professionals, will be enough to convince the discerning customer.
After taking over the mantle of India Chief, what have been the new initiatives introduced in India, which are expected to take the company forward in the current year?
As you are aware, Olympus Imaging India was a liaison office until November 2010. With the setting up of a wholly-owned Indian subsidiary, we have reaffirmed our commitment towards the Indian consumer, and in our belief that the Indian market is where the future holds potential for us. We have already begun an aggressive expansion of outlets from 1600 to 2000, where Olympus products will be available. We also wish to assure our loyal customers of our continued support post sales through the setting up of a Level IV Master Service Centre, which is under process.
