The recently concluded Photokina provided further evidence that technology in the imaging world has, over the last few decades, enabled more and more people to take up and succeed in photography. In the past, if you wanted a picture taken, a photographer was summoned. Very few individuals understood or wanted to understand “f” stops, apertures and shutter speeds. Today, with all the controls and techniques suitably simplified, even the uninitiated can come up with good pictures. Digital cameras and smartphones have aided this process immensely.
So this month, let’s take a toast to the ‘democratization’ of photography and the passing of the skills involved in taking good pictures to the common man!
