Samsung SDI has replaced Panasonic in the Li-ion cell shipments volume ranking, to became the No.1 supplier in 2012.
Samsung gained its share by 1.9 percentage points from the previous year to 25.1%, while Panasonic fell 2.8 points to 20.7%. LG Electronics followed at 16%, down 0.2 point and Sony 7.7%, a 0.8 point down. The share for smartphones increased steadily, contributing to Samsung’s growth; laptops and computers were sluggish.
