Western Digital and SanDisk Corporation announced that the two companies are collaborating on a project that will attempt to bring hybrid storage devices to the market, combining SanDisk’s flash memory technology and WD’s hard drive technology.
According to information released so far, SanDisk is supplying a SanDisk iSSD storage device for the WD Black solid state hybrid drive (SSHD). This combination is expected to give consumers high performance at low power consumption and cost, with reliability and a compact form factor, while providing enhanced storage space to meet customer needs for increased digital content, and flash-enabled speed, data throughput, and responsiveness.
