President and Chairman of Olympus, Tsuyoshi Kikukawa has resigned. Shuichi Takayama has been appointed as the new President of the company.
After the removal of Michael Woodford from the team, Kikukawa was appointed. Following the resignation, Kikukawa stated that he had stepped down to restore confidence in the company under a new management, while continuing to work as a director. Takayama joined Olympus straight from an engineering high school in 1970, and has served on the company’s board since 2006 after holding several senior managerial positions.
