Tamron Co. posted a net profit of 708 million yen, up 58.1 percent year-on-year, in its first quarter ended March 31, on total sales of 12.27 billion yen, up 9.9 percent.
Its imaging business unit handling photographic lenses posted an operating profit of 1.22 billion yen, on total sales of 8.0 billion yen. Sales of lenses under the Tamron brand, as well as brands of its OEM customers were favorable. Its component business unit handling lens units for digital cameras posted an operating loss of 10 million yen on total sales of 2.56 billion yen, while the industrial optics business unit handling surveillance camera lenses generated an operating profit of 193 million yen, on total sales of 1.639 billion yen.
