Samsung SDI has replaced Panasonic in the Li-ion cell shipments volume ranking, to became the No.1 supplier in 2012. Sony has sold “Sony City Osaki” building in Shinagawa to the Nippon Building Fund and other Japanese financial institutes, at 111.1 billion yen (US$1.23 B). The company will post a 41 billion yen (US$455.5 M) operational profit in the Jan-March 2013 quarter. Sony will rent the building for the next five years and will relocate in the future. Sony Corp. raised its stake in Olympus Corp. from 4.7% to 11.5%, becoming their largest shareholder. The move is expected to expedite collaborations between the two companies in medical and digital camera operations.
