For Mumbai based commercial photographer Harika Chanana, the camera has been the object of her affection for the last three years.
The association with photography has put her on a journey that according to her is inexplicable. She says, “My creativity manifests through my image creations, which is also a means and medium of expression with absolute freedom.” Harika is quick to point out that photography is not just about the camera. She puts emphasis on harboring a zeal to add a spark into the images one shoots. Although not easy, she assures it delivers beautiful results.
“To actualize my dream, I enrolled with Shari Academy to become a professional photographer, and the rest I can say is history. Here, I discovered more about myself by understanding others, and that is why I enjoy shooting people. Fashion photography comes naturally to me. However, disproving the assumption people have is perhaps the biggest challenge a photographer faces. This is because its important to realize that no person is ordinary, and we need to capture the best whatever the situation demands. This is where attention to detail is paramount. Non-verbal communication, in the form of strong body language is of utmost importance. Arguably professionals believe that a photographer has to be a real man-manager, with the responsibility of ensuring that everything is wonderfully coordinated and delivered in a timely manner”, emphasized the budding talent
Speaking of the method to get the perfect result, she mentions, “The completion of the shoot is not the last step. The photographer has to shortlist the images to segregate “the best from the rest”. Photoshop is another tool that enables to bring out the best aesthetics in the shot.”
“Fashion to me is not just about pretty pictures. It involves creating a dialogue between the fashion designer, model, makeup artist, and ultimately the viewer at large. A culmination of all these skills, with the documentation of the trends in vogue adds life to the portrait. With regard to my images, I simply strive to recreate some small reflections from the realms of my imagination”.
