SNIPPETS-Olympus’ net income to drop to 6 billion yen

According to Senior Executive Director Yasuo Takeouchi. Olympus expects to lose about 16 billion yen this fiscal year at its camera business; twice the 8 billion yen target set in November 2012.

As consumers turn to smart-phone for picture taking, global shipments of digital compact cameras fell 14% in value in November 2012 from the previous month.

Kodak to end contract with Sony Pictures
Kodak is set to end its contract with Sony Pictures, in order to provide the company (chemical) film at discounted rates. In August, Kodak reached new deals with four other movie studios for motion picture film, and not Sony. Over the last year, Kodak and Sony Pictures worked on a new deal, but no new deal was signed.

Nikon issues service advisory on D600’s dust issue

Nikon has released a service advisory for its D600 digital SLR, addressing dust and dirt accumulation on the camera’s sensor. Based on user complaints, Nikon has acknowledged that dust removal could be difficult normally and advises customers to contact their nearest Nikon service centre.

Adobe Lightroom 4.4 and ACR 7.4 release candidates
Adobe has announced ‘release candidate’ versions of Lightroom 4.4 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.4. The update also corrects a series of bugs present in the current version.
