Sony Expands G Lens Series

May 26, 2022 by Sweta baruah

Sony recently introduced the FE PZ 16-35 mm f/4 G lens (model SELP1635G).

“The need and demand for ‘hybrid’ products that specialises in both stills and video is constantly growing and so is the quality of the content, especially online”, said Mukesh Srivastava, Digital Imaging Head at Sony India. “The FE PZ 16-35 mm f/4 Gis perfectly designed keeping in mind the requirements of new age content creators and aims to remove any barriers to their creativity as the world’s lightest constant f/4 wide-angle power zoom”.

The lens’ optical path includes two AA (advanced aspherical) elements, a standard aspherical element, one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion), one ED glass element and one ED aspherical element. It features a minimum focussing distance is 0.28 metres at 16 mm and 0.24 metres at 35 mm, with a maximum magnification of 0.23x.

It uses six of Sony’s original XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors for both focus and zoom drive. The power zoom is reported to minimise camera shake that can occur when operating a zoom ring and when used with compatible camera bodies. Users can customise the zoom ring direction to suit shooting conditions. The lens weighs 353 g, which is approx. 30% lesser than the SEL1635Z and is 80.5 mm x 88.1 mm in size with a filter diameter of 72 mm.

The overall length of the lens remains constant while focussing and zooming for balance and handling, making it ideal for gimbal-mounted movie shooting. The focus ring can be controlled with a finger while shooting movies, and the adjacent focus and zoom rings are stepped so they can be differentiated and operated by feel, while viewing the monitor. Other features include the Iris Lock Switch and dust and moisture resistant design along with a fluorine front element coating to keep the lens clean and reliable for outdoor use.

The FE PZ 16-35 mm f/4 G lens is available for purchase across all Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, www.ShopatSC.com portal and major electronic stores across India at a price of INR 1,24,990.
