Sony Introduces New G Master Lens

April 16, 2021 by Sweta baruah

Sony FE 50 mm f/1.2 GM Lens

Sony has unveiled the newest addition to its G Master full-frame lens series, the FE 50 mm f/1.2 GM (model SEL50F12GM).

The new GM lens features optics that includes three XA (extreme aspherical) lens elements that contribute to high resolution across the entire image, and is maintained even when fully opened at f/1.2. The lens boasts of clear images in backlit scenes, owing to Sony’s Nano AR Coating II that minimises internal reflections. It reportedly creates dramatic G Master bokeh at the maximum f/1.2 aperture and uses an 11-blade circular aperture unit and fine-tuned optical design with minimal spherical aberration.

According to Sony, the lens can keep subjects in sharp focus even at an extremely shallow depth-of-field with fast, precise, quiet Autofocus (AF) and tracking, owing to the four XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors. When shooting 4K video with human eye tracking, the GM lens reportedly allows the user to focus on the composition with minimum delay and low vibration. It comes with a minimum focussing distance of 0.4 mm and features a compact and lightweight design, measuring 87 x 108 mm and weighing 778 g.

The lens features controls and functions such as a Linear Response MF (Manual Focus), aperture ring with a click on/off switch, focus mode switch and two customisable focus hold buttons. It also features a dust and moisture resistant design and a fluorine front element coating for protection against fingerprints, dust, water, oil and other contaminants.

The new FE 50 mm f/1.2 GM lens is available across all Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, www.ShopatSC.com portal and major electronic stores across India at an MRP of INR 228,990.
