“Photofair has been a very important event for HP, and every Photofair, the company launches some new products”, says Appadurai, Country Manager – Indigo and Inkjet Solutions, HP Asia Pacic/Japan. HP accounts for 11-12 percent of wedding albums in India and the company has sold 7 Indigo 5600 and 4 Indigo 7600 Digital Press in the last six months. HP has also registered a phenomenal growth rate of 300 percent last year. Here are the innovative products that HP has showcased in the Consumer Electronic Imaging Fair 2013.
Video Albums
HP is the number one IT company in the world. We have a big soware division, and with that soware division, they have developed a new soware known as Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality is where you take a still picture and point your smartphone or device connected to the internet and you actually see the wedding in reality in a video form. HP is persuading the Indigo Press customers to provide this option to the photographer or the end customer. is is a great value addition since the customer need not display separate video and still images. The video resides on the web space and when you point your iPad, Blackberry or Android device at the still image, the video is played in real time. So the picture comes alive just by pointing the device on to the image. HP showcases innovative printing solutions Appadurai, Country Manager – Indigo and Inkjet Solutions, HP Asia Pacic/Japan
3D Albums
HP is also introducing a 3D album, which involves printing on a direct 3D lens. Being the world leader in digital printing technology, HP has a unique technology called the Liquid ElectroInk, which is very different from conventional printing technology. In CMYK, we use either dry powder xerographic toner or inkjet technology. But these are not very great technologies when it comes to imaging, the difference lies in the particle size. HP has a high standard in photo printing today. The Indigo Digital Presses are rated as the best photo printers in the world. We have a technology by which we can print directly on the back side of a 3D lens. We also use a white ink, which acts as a screen in 3D printing. With this technology, we can either bring depth into the image or actually have three different images, whereby you can see a different image just by viewing from a different angle.
24-carat Albums
HP has also unveiled a new special effects album known as the 24-carat album. The idea is that you can actually feel the picture when you go through this album. The main feature is that you can print gold in a special golden colour, something you cannot do anywhere else. is includes spot lamination, but here it is done by the machine itself and is a single step process as against the two-step processes earlier. So if you print the image of gold ornaments, this technology can make it look real. Raised textured print is also available, where the text can pop out, enhancing the viewing experience.
Other innovative product include the HP Indigo 10000 album, which can print up to 20 x 29 inch images, and metallised printing, which can print on metallised substrates with a white base coating.
