An international photo contest – ‘Image Quest 2013’ – has been organised by Red Bull Illume, dedicated to the world of action and adventure sports. It aims to showcase the most exciting and most creative action photographs as art and bring the public into the world of action sports. This will be the third edition of the competition after 2007 and 2010.
In 2010, a total of 22,764 images were submitted by 4773 photographers from 112 countries.
Submissions to the 2013 contest are open from 1st December 2012 to 30th April 2013. Ten categories for the contest are: Lifestyle, Playground, Energy, Spirit, Close-up, Wings, Sequence, New Creativity, Experimental and Illumination. A team of photo editors from prominent international publications will select 250 images for judging, which will be further short-listed to 5 best images from each category, and finally, one overall winner. The 50 finalist images will then travel around the world as a unique and stand-alone night-time exhibition where the images will be illuminated in large back-lit displays.
