Selfie Redefined! – Vivo V5 Plus

May 25, 2017 by SPEdit Team

ASelfieRedefined2Twin cameras seem to be the order of the day. While most smartphones incorporate their twin cameras on the rear, Vivo has decided to mount it on the front and market it as a selfie specialist.

Design and Build Quality
Most Chinese Android smartphones features the same design with cosmetic changes and the V5 Plus is no different. The phone has a metal unibody design and the front surface is protected by a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The oval fingerprint sensor is in the front and the surface above the screen accommodates the twin front camera lenses along with a light sensor and flash, distributed on either side of the speaker grille. The antenna lines are curved, similar to that of the iPhone 7. The base has a 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grille, microphone hole and the micro USB port.

Key Features
The Vivo V5 Plus prides itself as a selfie specialist, being the first smartphone to feature a dual front camera with a 20 megapixel f/2.0 unit and another 8-megapixel f/2.0 unit mounted side-byside. The dual front cameras use 1/2.78 inch Sony IMX376 image sensors. While the 20-megapixel unit helps to capture fine details, the 8-megapixel camera records all depth information. This enables you to adjust depth-of-field and change focus point even after the image has been captured. It also features a front ‘moonlight’ LED, which provides natural-looking fill-light for your selfies. The rear camera is 16-megapixel with a maximum aperture of f/2.0.

The rear camera offers shooting modes such as Normal, Panorama, HDR, Night, PPT, Pro, Ultra HD Photos, Palm Capture, Face Beauty, Voice Capture, Camera Filter, Fast, Slow, Sport Mode, Timer, Touch Capture, Video and 4K Recording while the front camera offers Normal, Gender Detection, Palm Capture, Face Beauty, Voice Capture, Camera Filter, Moonlight Selfie (Front Moonlight Glow), Timer,  Touch Capture, Videos, Mirrored Selfie, Boken Mode and HDR modes.

The phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 2.0GHz Octa-core processor, which is one of the most power efficient processors available today. The device offers 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, which is not expandable. The V5 Plus accepts dual Nano SIM. The phone is based on Android 6.0 with a Funtouch OS skin. The screen uses a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protective glass. The display provides Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The device uses a 3055mAh non-removable battery and supports fast charging. The Vivo V5 Plus measures 152.58 x 74.00 x 7.26mm and weighs 158.6g.
