Nikon Uncovers the new DX format D5100

May 2, 2011 by spwordpress

Nikon announced the newest version of its DX format DSLR- the D5100. A successor to the D5000 is said to be available on the home market from April 21st, expected to be selling at around 80K yen (US$940) on the street.

The D5100 has all the trappings of a DSLR for hobbyists, such as a 23.6 x 15.6mm CMOS image sensor supported by “EXPEED 2” image processing engine, Penta-mirror viewfinder, capable of taking HD movie, various special effects and flexible manual adjustments.

The new DSLR has a larger 3-inch “vari-angle” 920K-dot LCD monitor that allows easy picture taking at all angles. The “High Dynamic Range” allows making composite photographs from two pictures, one under exposed and another over exposed into an impressive composite one.

A dedicated Li-ion battery pack (EN-EL14) powers the camera. A removable SD/SDHA/SDXC memory card stores captured images in RAW, JPEG or RAW + JPEG format.

The manufacturer states that the D5100, in performance is comparable to the upper-grade D7000 model.
