Renowned US photographers Sandro Miller and Mark Edward Harris recently conducted an informative Studio, Portraiture & Travel Photography Workshop in India. Invited by well-known photographer and pen artist Rachana Darda, the duo shared their extensive knowledge with the Indian audience.
Sandro Miller, recognized for capturing Hollywood luminaries like Al Pacino, Dennis Hopper and Muhammad Ali, and Mark Edward Harris, famous for immortalizing celebrities such as Jimmy Carter, Steven Spielberg, and Mick Jagger, conducted an enlightening seminar at Mumbai’s Nehru Centre on March 3, 2024. The seminar focused on their photographic journeys, tracing the evolution from personal hobbies to professional pursuits, and shared the benefits of printing photographs. The photographers engaged the audience with large-sized fine art prints and an interactive session that included Q&A.
From March 4th to 6th, a three-day masterclass on studio lights took place for the students of Shari Academy of Professional Photography, led by photographer and educator Hridgandha Mistry. Sandro and Mark shared insights into legendary photographers, offered a comprehensive overview of the photography business process, and demonstrated various studio setups featuring professional models, including a ballet cum Odissi dancer and everyday people.
The masterclass covered styles such as headshots, portfolio creation, freeze action photography, mixed lighting, and more. Book reviews and image critiques were conducted for participants interested in refining their skills. The event left the young photographers motivated, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities in professional photography.
Acknowledging the students’ existing knowledge, Sandro and Mark credited Shari Academy for contributing to their growth. The event was made possible through Rachana Darda’s initiative, supported by industry leaders Fujifilm, Srishti Digilife (Distributors of Profoto and other photography products), and Photoquip (distributors of Nanlite in India). Fujifilm showcased their range of cameras, offering participants a hands-on experience.
The collaboration between established photographers and industry partners showcased the positive impact of collective efforts in educating the next generation of photographers in India.
